The Phenomenon of Responsibility in the Postmodern Era
Jirgl, Sebastian ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor)
The dissertation The Phenomenon of Responsibility in the Postmodern Era discusses the phenomenon of responsibility in the context of the postmodern era. The issue of responsibility is viewed here primarily from a philosophical point of view. At the same time, the dissertation attempts a partial thematic overlap, in connection with the meaning of the selected concept of responsibility, within the ethics and particularly even other related social science disciplines. In the beginning, the basic problematics is set here. This discusses the etymological point of view and responsibility is subsequently given here in the connection of the context of terms such as freedom, response or ambiguity. Furthermore, the basic relationship is presented, in the context of the phenomenon of responsibility, and responsibility is also here confronted with the present. Subsequently, the approaches and theses of an important author of the 20th century, who systematically dealt with the phenomenon of responsibility, the French author Emmanuel Levinas, are particularly emphasized. The main thesis here can be characterized as an attempt to interpret and process the concept of responsibility, especially within the context of philosophical discourse. This is done mainly against the background of the thinking of Emmanuel...

Exhibitions Confrontations in the Years 1984-1987
PROKEŠOVÁ, Daniela
The subject of this bachelor thesis are the exhibitions Confrontations I-VI, exhibitions organized in 1984-1986 by students of the Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. At that time, students were not able to participate in official exhibitions and the strong need to exhibit and confront each other led them to organize their own in their studios and apartments. Jiří David and Stanislav Diviš took on the task of organizing them after discovering that some of their classmates had the same needs as they did. The main aim of this thesis is to describe these exhibitions in as much detail as possible and to present their form on the basis of available photographs and reviews, and to evaluate their significance, both for the participants themselves and for the further development of visual art in our area. Furthermore, the thesis tries to place the exhibitions in the context of art and the social situation at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. Art production at that time was strongly influenced by the ruling communist regime, which bound art with a series of restrictive rules and did not allow everyone to exhibit. Thus, the organisation of exhibitions in alternative, non-arts spaces was not an isolated event. The final part of the thesis assesses the influence of Confrontations as the beginning of our postmodern art, especially according to the elements that the exhibition reviewers saw as postmodern in the art works.
The Postmodernism as a Mistrust of the Metanarrative
Kolář, Matěj ; Zicha, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
This thesis is concerned with the postmodern era, mainly from the viewpoint of postmodern philosophy. It includes the thoughts of Jean Francoise Lyotard, who is considered to be the founder of modern philosophy, about the mistrust of the contemporary society of metanarrative. The thesis also focuses on the ongoing discussion of whether the use of the word "postmodernism" is legitimate and what the concept even means in general. That is the reason why a significant part of this thesis elaborates on the genealogy of the word, focusing on the role of art, which attempts to explain the main principles of the world that we live in. Lyotard's omnipresent motif of mistrust of metanarrative has become so significant as to appear regularly in the works of today's philosophers and sociologists. Therefore, this thesis looks at the continuation of such a motif. The last part of the thesis introduces the Czech perception of the postmodern, again incorporating the theme of mistrust of metanarrative or, in other words, great stories. This thesis aims to analyze texts written by two global authors (W. Welsch, Z. Bauman) and two Czech authors (V. Bělohradský, M. Hauser) in order to observe the continuation of Lyotard's thesis. The analysis will allow the reader to grasp the current era as a postmodern one. KEYWORDS...
The Art Scene in Ostrava in an Extended Context of the1980's and 1990's
Král, Jakub ; Pech, Milan (referee)
As a result of the postmodern decentralization of thinking, the monolithic historical development is undermined and together with it the peripheral streams of artistic development are accepted. In the mid-eighties in the Czech republic two parallel regional art scenes were emerged in Ostrava and Usti nad Labem, which are characterized by a different approach to traditional artistic strategies. It seems that traditional disciplines in these regions are failing, and the artists due to the impossibility of continuous connection with previous historical development and the lack of institutional support opts for the intesified position towards the bases of the art itself and its affirmation. Artists in the 1980s and 1990s in Ostrava turned against the classic institutional activity in the form of orientation on the public space and criticism of the bases of modern autonomous artwork.
